Gone There
04:11
|
|||
I was born in the year of the Ox
Early years felt like I was thrown to the dogs
On a three day week, with only time to spare
Seems like fate not to trust your own mind
What’s in the air back then, today is hard to find
It’s a long way home, just to find a friend
I heard people praying like there must be something more
Felt like Robert Barclay on that East Jersey shore
And it’s a long way home, to come back again
Those too young to worry, I don’t envy know
Don’t care to think to much for myself anyhow
I’m not alone, it might just seem that way
So got to kick, and feel I could shout
I’m damned if I’m just gonna give up like that
There’s good soil on this land, waits to be turned again
So throw down the grain, put down your guns
You’ll never survive, just look what we’ve become
It’s a long way home, to a place I never left
I see people look from the corner of an eye,
Mistrust turns to fear, lose the man, lose the child
And we’re gone right there, the past will teach us,
We’re gone right there, the past will teach us that

All I Knew
02:53
|
|||
All I Knew
The night is over, dawn is on my side,
Race along, we need coffee a place to hide,
And this I wouldn’t change, even if there was a chance
You knew something more than you gave away,
The moon drags tides, but the fog is here to stay
I really tried to give a damn
It was all I knew
At the roadside, 200 miles to go
Stop for petrol, waiting for the rain to go
And you I wouldn’t change even if there was a chance
That we didn’t have to turn away
It’s not a choice it’s in the stars ahead
I didn’t have to try to give a damn
It was all I knew
And I didn’t have to try to give a damn
It was all I knew

Greener The Grass
03:55
|
|||
Greener the Grass
Your life was spinning round
On a pale blue globe
Turned on a whisper overheard
I was feeling flat
When I heard a sigh
Stopped and the feeling was gone before I’d time to ask why
In the blink of an eye
Beside the underground
I watched the river flow
On the bridge I waited til the light had started to go
Then a shadow moved
And I caught your eye
Knew then I was reading from somebody else’s lines
Somebody else’s lines
There a song called restless, do you hear that in me
Playing at being another, ain’t just exactly free
Were never free
It’s like a remedy
To be alone tonight
And it’s not like I’m going to go
Without saying goodbye
While you’re still spinning round
Life’s a broken chord
Playing in the distance waiting to be heard
Just let me be heard
City lights bind us together
In city nights we hide away
When those days are gone, I’ll miss what I left behind
Greener the grass on the other side
It’s greener on the other side

Pilgrims Tale
04:05
|

Pilgrims Tale
Old memories and shaken hands are not without their charms
I’ve wondered ‘cross golden lands but they don’t have the warmth of your arms
Long winters and empty rooms are all I have come to own
As I lose myself, at the crossing of roads
A voice is calling me home
But it’s getting harder to hear
When will these shackles fall away
All of the maps in the world
Can’t help me now
My mind is strong but my heart it is weak
With a sorry tale to tell
Cold tears on darkened sheets
My friends I know you well
Let us take a walk on a moonlit night
On the banks if the rivers I know
And I’ll tell you stories of how I survived
You’ll tell me you’re glad that I’m home
But it’s getting harder to breathe
As these days turn to years
All of the time in the world can’t save me now

On My Mind
03:15
|
|||
When I was so much older
I looked to distant times
Now I live in the moment
And I sleep under the pines
Honey you were on my mind
Honey you were on my mind
Leavin’ town now honey
Just won’t set you free
And the good times I carry with me
Still won’t leave me be
Honey you were on my mind
Honey you were on my mind
Honey you were on my mind

Stalling
05:51
|
|||
It’s a bit too late for stalling
So leave tonight and never know
The raining time nothing calms my worried mind
So leave tonight and never know
Don’t think this time that I’ll follow
And I won’t wait here for you
See there’s a gun held to my head by God’s own hand
So I got to see this through
The money’s down
Stakes are raised
But we’re all losing ground
And the Devil’s waiting too
It’s so funny but it’s deadly
Now the choice’s has gone to make
And if your look could kill, then please find me a miracle
If it’s not yet too late
And we’re all caught in ways we don’t know
As Jesus works with others too
Load another round just let go once more
Christ you’d better be on my side too
‘Cause it’s a bit too late to be stalling
Got to walk in side by side
All through the storm that I never
Wished for anymore
So I’ll leave this up to you
The money’s down
Stakes are raised
But we’re all losing ground
And know the Devil’s waiting too.

Border Hills
04:38
|
|||
t was early evening, I caught myself, just out of Charlotte Town,
Pulled off the road to rest before sleep took ahold
As I started dreaming I felt the exhaustion as you finally slow down
I’ve been running all ways, but never in the race till I let that last dice go
The last dice go, for when you need a nine to tie
Its all sixes and twos, which is never much use this time
And peace won’t calm this mind
There’s something in the air keeps dragging me back, to a place I left far behind
And you’ll be waiting there
Exist in this place for all of the time that I’ve been away out there
The sound of a door slamming shut pulled me from my endless dream
Two men in tweed suits, with flashlights and boots, began to approach me
I said I was moving but I just stopped back there on the way
They said, get back on the road and just go back to from where you came
From where you came, and I said don’t push me around
For I’m doing no harm but this air of calm is quick to run out
And I’m sure our time is close
If I could just get back to when it was that you and I took on the world
Let the rain all winds blow
From north to south and take me to all the corners of the world
From border hills, from border hills
From border hills, I’m running still

Happiness
03:21
|
|||
Lost In The Story, free in Crowd
Time slips from me, hope sticks around
Then, it’s just a single moment left to recapture
And I can only try to feel happiness, happiness, right now
Straight talking lady, cool air bring me down
You always wait for something, that I don’t think you’ll ever find
So, it’s just a single moment makes me question
And I can only try to feel happiness, happiness right now
Instrumental
Now, it’s just the thought that this might never have happened
And I can only just remember happiness, happiness, happiness right now

On The River
03:45
|
|||
I’ll wish you all the best luck that you ever have in the world
Row 22, aisle seat, taxiing, I really start to hurt,
Winds blowing from the south,
Just too close to ever be home, but I don’t want to be anywhere else
When you’re sleeping in the morning I’ll be working through the night,
Another bar, same old town, a thousand different ways to pad it out,
And I seem to make it work,
As I close my eyes, inhale smoke, you awake to find your day about to start
And we’re banging on the door, crying God please let us in
Where nothing is just given, there’s a fight for everything
And it’s raining in the city, so I’m thinking southern climes
Listening to your distant voice calling through the wire
This life I’m living honey it’s a hard old way to go
Money’s tight, days are long, it often seems like no-one wants to know
But I’m not complaining now
It’s one thing to live your life apart, another to give up on who you are
I’m just one more player on the river, on the river on my knees
Just one more player crying God won’t you help me please
So I’ll say goodbye and leave you I don’t mean it as it sounds
I know you’ll be alright out there, don’t worry about me honey, I’ll be fine
Just a few more weeks to go,
Then I’ll be coming home to your arms until when I’m bound to go
And we’re banging on the door, crying God please let us in
Where nothing is just given, there’s a fight for everything
And it’s raining in the city, so I’m thinking southern climes
Listening to your distant voice calling through the wire

The Earth & The Breeze
03:59
|
|||
ust south of nowhere with the stars as a guide
A young girl was standing to take stock for a while
Spoke the breeze in her ear, better move don’t delay
For the world keeps on turning and changing each day
This young girl she lived to take life as it comes
Said I’m tired of the endless road life has become
Here I can feel that a home I can find
Let the world turn around me I must rest a while
Spoke the earth oh no you’ll not rest on me
I won’t have another boat drift out to sea
So the skies they grew dark and the still air turned cold
And the world refused a traveller the sleep that she sought
From the mist of the twighlight a voice softly spoke
Give me 20cc quickly don’t let her go
Then the breeze and the earth were both swallowed in light
And the world kept on turning for this traveller at least one more time
Just south of nowhere with the stars as a guide
A young girl was moving, a young girl still tired
But the earth and the breeze that had saved her that day
Still hung in the air to watch this traveller safely on her way
